無人化
アメリカの駐車場の多くは無人化されています。レドンドビーチにあるレドンドピア公共駐車場は1350台停められる広い駐車場ですが、無人でゲートもありません。駐車する際に清算機に駐車予定時間と駐車スペースの番号を入力し、駐車券を受け取ります。予想より長く駐車した場合は出車の際に超過分を清算機に支払います。
とりっぱぐれを防ぐためには監視員を配置する必要がありそうですが、その分人件費がかさんでしまいます。無人化を貫きつつ集金率を保つためにはどのようなシステムが存在しているのでしょうか。写真の1階はクオリティーシーフード、2階と3階は駐車場です。

THE PIER AND PLAZA PARKING STRUCTURES ARE PAY-BY-SPACE LOTS – PLEASE VISIT A PAYSTATION AND PAY FOR PARKING UPON ARRIVAL.
HOW TO USE THE SYSTEM:
1) Upon arrival, note your space number.
2) Visit any pay station and complete your transaction.
3) Enjoy the Waterfront!
Take your receipt with you. If you would like to extend your transaction, visit any pay station and use the Add Time code on the receipt.
If you pay by credit card, you can submit your cell phone number to receive an alert via text message shortly before expiration. You can extend your time by replying to the text.
Please use exact change or credit cards. The pay stations do not offer change and refunds are not provided.
Capacity 1,350 spaces (combined)
Rate Summer (May 1 – September 30):
$2.00 each hour; $0.50 for the first hour weekdays 8am to 6pm
Winter (October 1 – April 30):
$1.50 each hour; $0.50 for the first hour weekdays 8am to 6pm
Convenient Access to the Pier, International Boardwalk, Veterans Park, marinas, bike path and the Beach
